The Tradescantia  is part of the Commelinaceae family, native to Argentina and Brazil, where they densely cover the ground beneath the trees. 

The leaves of the Tradescantia  are light purple on one side and grayish green on the other. Compact, it trails easily. It ranks among plant lovers’ favourite houseplants given the fact is easy to care for. Since it is also the ideal candidate to propagate, it is ideal to share!

MAINTENANCE

The Tradescantia  is a hardy plant which requires good luminosity to be happy inside. It can even satisfy itself with medium light conditions. It is best to keep away from direct sunlight which could scorch its foliage. It will need to be watered when the first third of its soil is dry. If the stems thin out as they grow, it is best to cut them above a nice leave to stimulate new ramification growth.

When you take possession of your plant, make sure you assess its watering needs. Before you give it a drink the first time, check the soil’s moisture level to verify whether or not it is moist near the surface. It is best to aerate the soil before the initial watering since it is often compacted to avoid shifting during transit. This also allows it to breathe and release moisture.

Rotate your plant periodically in order to encourage an even growth. Cleaning the leaves regularly will stimulate proper photosynthesis. As you wipe the foliage, inspect the leaves on either side to make sure there are no pests.
