The Peperomia argyreia is a member of the Piperaceae family, native to Brazilian tropical forests. Its foliage resembling that of a watermelon, thus its nickname Watermelon Peperomia, makes it a much sought for indoor plant right now.

The Peperomia argyreia’s leaves are very smooth to the touch, silvery grey and variegated with green. With its dense foliage, it can easily fill a luminous zone when mature. Easy to care for, it is the perfect plant for beginners!

MAINTENANCE

The Peperomia argyreia appreciates good ambient light, but dislikes direct sun, which can scorch its foliage. Ideally, place it in an Eastern facing window. If you should choose a South of West-facing exposition, it is best to set it in indirect light. Give your Peperomia argyreia a drink when its soil dries up to the first third of the pot. The frequency may vary depending on the season and humidity level of the room.

When you take possession of your plant, make sure you assess its watering needs. Before you give it a drink the first time, check the soil’s moisture level to verify whether or not it is moist near the surface. It is best to aerate the soil before the initial watering since it is often compacted to avoid shifting during transit. This also allows it to breathe and release moisture.

Rotate your plant periodically in order to encourage an even growth. Cleaning the leaves regularly will stimulate proper photosynthesis. As you wipe the foliage, inspect the leaves on either side to make sure there are no pests.
