The Pachypodium lamerei, often called the Madagascar Palm, is a member of the Apocynaceae family. This superb succulent is hardy and well adapted to desert conditions. It evolves very easily indoors in our climate.

The Pachypodium lamerei exhibits a thick and pale green trunk covered with spines. The trunk constitutes its water reserve. On top appear long dark green and persistent leaves shaped in a rosette. Combine it with other succulents or cacti from our collection to create your own little indoor desert paradise!

MAINTENANCE

To be happy inside, the Pachypodium lamerei requires direct sun for many hours daily. Ideally, position it near a window facing south or west. It will need to be watered when its soil is completely dry from top to bottom, which could correspond to every 3 to 5 weeks depending on the season and the humidity level of the room. Here is a little tip to determine if it is the case: delicately insert a thin wooden stick all the way down to the bottom of the pot. If the stick is wet or damp as you pull it out, your Pachypodium lamerei does not need a drink just yet!

When you take possession of your plant, make sure you assess its watering needs. Before you give it a drink the first time, check the soil’s moisture level to verify whether or not it is moist near the surface. It is best to aerate the soil before the initial watering since it is often compacted to avoid shifting during transit. This also allows it to breathe and release moisture.

Rotate your plant periodically in order to encourage an even growth. Cleaning the leaves regularly will stimulate proper photosynthesis. As you wipe the foliage, inspect the leaves on either side to make sure there are no pests.
