The Chlorophytum, commonly called Spider plant, is part of Liliaceae family native to South Africa, comprising over 200 different species. It is the ideal indoor plant to go green with since it is robust and not very demanding in terms of care.

The cascading foliage of the Chlorophytum is ribbon-like and variegated with white. It will produce lovely white flowers in spring and summer. Its bountiful foliage will undoubtedly spruce up any luminous space at home or at the office!

MAINTENANCE

The Chlorophytum  is a hardy plant which requires good luminosity to be happy inside. It can even satisfy itself with medium light conditions. It will need to be watered when the first third of its soil is dry. It is also the perfect plant for those who like to share: it produces plantlets which can be planted in soil after having produced enough roots in water beforehand.

When you take possession of your plant, make sure you assess its watering needs. Before you give it a drink the first time, check the soil’s moisture level to verify whether or not it is moist near the surface. It is best to aerate the soil before the initial watering since it is often compacted to avoid shifting during transit. This also allows it to breathe and release moisture.

Rotate your plant periodically in order to encourage an even growth. Cleaning the leaves regularly will stimulate proper photosynthesis. As you wipe the foliage, inspect the leaves on either side to make sure there are no pests.
