The Cereus , also known as Fairy Castle, is a member of the immense Cactaceae family, comprising over 200 species. Native to Latin America, this variety is very resistant and well adapted to desert conditions.
The Cereus stands out given is cartoon-like appearance! Its single trunk will divide over the years. When it reaches maturity, it will grant you with a splendid white flower, which will appear... at night! Pair it up with any other of our cacti for a guaranteed desert-like effect!
MAINTENANCE
To be happy inside, the Cereus paolina requires direct sun for at least 4 hours daily. Ideally, position it near a window facing south or west. It will need to be watered when its soil is completely dry from top to bottom, which could correspond to every 4 to 6 weeks depending on the season and the humidity level of the room. Here is a little tip to determine if it is the case: delicately insert a thin wooden stick all the way down to the bottom of the pot. If the stick is wet or damp as you pull it out, your cactus does not need a drink just yet!
When you take possession of your plant, make sure you assess its watering needs. Before you give it a drink the first time, check the soil’s moisture level to verify whether or not it is moist near the surface. It is best to aerate the soil before the initial watering since it is often compacted to avoid shifting during transit. This also allows it to breathe and release moisture.
Rotate your plant periodically in order to encourage an even growth. Cleaning the leaves regularly will stimulate proper photosynthesis. As you wipe the foliage, inspect the leaves on either side to make sure there are no pests.
